Hi so last November I brought a Apple MacBook from John Lewis and I just broke the screen. How does the guarantee cover damage and what will happen to my laptop? Like will I need to pay for a new one / replacement / repair or will they guarantee cover that ???

I tried to read about it on the John Lewis website but I m kinda confused

Typically a warranty is designed to protect a consumer from manufacturer defects or the device breaking down somehow.

If you break the screen yourself, that repair charge is going to be on you unless you purchased some form of insurance that protects against damage.

Guarantees for products are the responsibility of the manufacturer of the product, not the company you purchased it from. Some companies will assist you with a warranty claim with the manufacturer, but it's up to the manufacturer to make an adjustment on the warranty claim of repair or replacement of the product. You'll need to contact Apple about your warranty claim. And manufacturers warranties usually only cover defective parts used in the computer. Since you broke the screen accidentally, this isn't a manufacturing defect, but damage caused by someone using the computer. A one year warranty usually runs from the date of purchase for 365 days more.

You have to pay for the accidental damage. Because apple provides warranty for manufacturing defects. Not for accidental. You can visit any nearest apple service center to check price included and process. it will cost between $300-400

No. They will not cover damage due to accident or abuse.

the guarantee will not cover accidental damage unless you paid for extra cover

The one year warranty NOT cover on accidental damage, .lost , stolen or abuse (not unless you pay extra with stated coverage). It only cover for malfunction of components/parts or the unit itself by normal use. In your case, they will charge you to replace the screen if they agree to fix it but mostly, they will refer you to the manufacturer of the laptop and you deal with all the hassle but there's a good and bad part of that. The good part is: the manufacturer allow you to continue the 1 year warranty then the bad part you pay the shipping of your laptop and you need to pay them the cost of labor and the screen replacement and the last bad part is you don't have the laptop for a period of time (a month or so) .So your other option is bring your laptop to the computer repair shop and let them replace the screen for you and this will save you time of waiting. Mostly takes a week but some repair shop gives you only 3 to 4 days to have it back although, you lose your manufacturer warranty of that laptop. but who cares right? most laptop will last more than the warranty period specially apple .So, good luck....

guarantees NEVER cover accidental damage

what will happen to your laptop? - it will stay as it is until you do something about it (like pay for it to be repaired, or buy another one)

First I have to ask if the warranty was transferred? It is transferable, but must be done as the sale is made so that Apple lists you as the new owner. If not, when you take it in, it will show that it belongs to the original owner! No problem as long as you have proof that you bought it, but it still doesn't swap the warranty into your name.

Your damage is "accident damage" and that is NOT covered by warranty. Warranty only covers failure due to factory defects, not accidents, nor abuse. You will be liable for the repair cost.
