I'm terrified when people do not handle sharp objects properly????

I don't know why, but since i was little, i have been really scared of sharp objects when people do not handle them properly. So i don't know what my friend was doing, but this afternoon, she was sitting next to me, and out of no where, she took out a pair of scissors, and place her fingers between the blades. And maybe i overreacted, but i immediately stood up and told her to stop. And she was just laughing and telling others(who were confused as to what was wrong with me) that the scissors aren't sharp at all. She then came up to me with the scissors, and i don't know if she was planning to cut me or what, but i was just too scared and i felt my face burning up and tears were in my eyes. She probably noticed that i was actually scared and she sat back down. Later, she apologised to me. And i'm just wondering, what was wrong with me? I know that she won't actually cut herself because she is controlling it, and the scissors aren't sharp enough anyway, and i also know that she won't hurt me but something about it really terrifies me. What is wrong with me?

It's just a fear you have. Don't beat yourself up over it! Trust me, there's other weirder fears out there.. (for example, i'm afraid of striped animals)

Thank you for reaching out for help! Fear is a powerful emotion, and the first step to working through it is recognizing it, which you have already done. I'm so glad that you are reaching out for help, and with some practice, you can overcome your fear of anything. Fear is dictated by the thoughts we think, which cause the brain to produces chemicals and hormones that make us feel "fear." The key to overcoming fear is to (1) recognize it (ie. "I am beginning to feel afraid or anxious,") (2) Talk yourself through it (ie. "I am feeling like I am because I am thinking scary/negative thoughts about ________. This is just my body's response to these thoughts and this will pass in the next few minutes"), (3) Don't get up and try to "run away" from the feeling of fear, stay put, deep breath, and positive self-talk to yourself. The feelings of fear will pass within about 2 minutes, and once they do, you will realize that there is nothing to be afraid of. It is just your body's normal response to fearful thoughts. Once you recognize this, you begin recognizing that your entire life is controlled by your thoughts. Now that is a turning point and the beginning of empowerment.
