An electron in the outermost shell of an atom is shielded from the nucleus by the electrons in the inner shells. This is known as "shielding effect" or "screening effect".
...... The answer is : d) electrons in the inner shells of the atom
I think it's D. Electrons are repelled by other electrons. The ones that are between the outer electrons and the nucleus are the electrons in the inner shell. These are the ones that would shield the outer electrons from the nucleus.
