Is it normal for my data to be erased when i unplug my harddrive from my computer?

No. It should not be erased . It should still be on the disk.

No it's not normal.
Did you shut down the computer before removing the hard drive? If the computer is using the drive when you un-plug it you've got a good chance of loosing data.
Are you using Steam? Maybe it was a steam security thing to keep people from transferring games between computers.
