Should I take my cat to the vet or am I overreacting?

My 8 month old kitten, her name is Wednesday, has been acting weird since I got home from work a few hours ago. When I pick her up, she meows or squeaks. She has hissed at me and growled at me for simply moving her off of me. If I move her even an inch, she meows. It's not her normal meow, either. Could she be in pain? When I moved her off my lap at few minutes ago, she meowed like I was hurting her. I'm not sure what to do because I don't want to overreact, but she's also a rescue kitten, I got her at 5 weeks old. I don't want to under react, if that makes sense. It's just very odd for her to act like this, she's normally VERY playful and happy.

It sounds like you should take her to the vet especially if she isn't acting like herself. If it isn't pain that she may be having, she could be grumpy because of you touching her in places she probably can't stand being touched but I don't know her like you do.

If she's eating, drinking, pooping, and peeing, but acting like this, she could be having an "off day. " My cat had those days where he was completely lethargic, couldn't be bothered, and every time we poked and prodded him, trying to get him to do anything, a cry-baby meow would follow. He was OK the next day, though.

Give it until tomorrow and take note of her water, food, and litter box. If it seems like nothing has been disturbed, something is wrong.

If something is off, then something is off and you should phone your vet about it.

Is she eating and using the box ok? Is she moving without pain, able to get up smoothly? Or is she having trouble with that or being able to jump?

She may have an upset stomach or be constipated. Let her rest quietly until tomorrow and see if she improves.
