What do you mean by 'pay at the counter'. These days you cannot turn up at the airport and expect to buy a ticket. Seats are booked in advance and the 'itinerary' is the booking confirmation sent by the airline when you book online or through a travel agency.

no, and usually when the clerk that books your ticket speaks of itenerary, it refers to places that connect your flight.

knowing what you plan to do or where you plan to go once you reach your destination is not a concern of the airline, nor is it required.

You can go to a ticket agent, tell them you name and where you are going and they will be able to pull up the flight information for you and issue you a boarding pass.
