Vermiculite Insulation: Would you buy the house?

We love this house but it has vermiculite in the attic. I don't know if it's in the walls too but we wanted to renovate the downstairs bathroom if we buy the house. We have a 3 year old and 1 year old too. Go ahead or find another house?

Most vermiculite insulation from the 50s does contain asbestos. Which wouldn't be a problem if we weren't planning to disturb it. But we do plan to renovate. Not sure how big of a problem asbestos is.

There is nothing wrong with vermiculite as house insulation. It's not as popular these days but it works and is not problematical.

According to the dictionary, vermiculite is any of various minerals that result usually from the expansion of mica granules at high temperatures to give a light-weight highly water-absorbent material. It seems to me that'll be more safer than asbestos.

Vermiculite is safe. I think you're getting it mixed up with asbestos.

So far as I know there is nothing wrong with vermiculite insulation but it isn't as efficient as other types of insulation, no reason why you should look for a different house because of it
