Why does ionic compounds have high boiling and melting points?

Is it because they have ions that are very different in electron negativity so they have stronger bonds?

An ionic compound contains a huge number of opposite ions, which are held together by strong electrostatic forces. A lot of energy is required to break the strong electrostatic forces between opposite ions. Therefore, the melting point and boiling point of ionic compounds are high.
