There are a couple ways to split a number into its prime factorization:

METHOD 1 - Repeated division by the prime numbers.

Start with the smallest prime number (2) and keep dividing until you can't. Then go to the next prime (3), then (5), etc. Stop when you have divided all the way down to 1.

Example:
510 / 2 = 255
255 / 3 = 85
85 / 5 = 17
17 / 17 = 1

Now write down all the numbers you divided by:
2 x 3 x 5 x 17 = 510

METHOD 2 - Create a factor tree.

Think of a couple numbers that multiply to be 510. Then split each of those numbers, etc.

Example:
........ 510
....... / ... \
.......10 51
...../.. \ / .. \
... 2 ..5. 3 . 17

Write down the prime numbers in order.
2 x 3 x 5 x 17 = 510

510 = 2×3×5×17
