do they allow you to be in the military if you have many large scars around the body? And if not, would it work if I tattooed over them?

You have to pass a physical. And they have barred people with tats enlisting.

If you have self harm scars, that indicates depression and the military would probably not want that. Tattoos might work if you are no longer depressed and harming.

Self harm is an automatic disqualification from all branches of the military. They will ask you straight out about it and tattooing over them and lying about it will get you in heaps of trouble.

I highly doubt that scars matter that much. My nephew lost a finger in a hunting accident when he was 15 years old. He entered the Marines when he was 18. His missing finger and the scars on his hand from the accident didn't matter. (they even had to special make his gloves for his dress blue uniform)

Now, if the scars are from self harm, then that might matter because of your mental issues. But if the scars are from some kind of accident, it shouldn't matter.
