a) Will the reaction move to left or right to achieve equilibirum. Show work to support your answer. Hint: Q=1.5
b) Will PCl5 increase or decrease? Why?
c) Will pressure increase or decrease. Why?

I will thumbs up and best answer the first correct answer.

(a)
PCl₅(g) ⇌ PCl₃(g) + Cl₂(g) ...... Keq = 33.3

Q = [PCl₃] [Cl₂] / [PCl₅] = (6/2) × (4/2) / (8/2) = 1.5 < Keq = 33.3

Q < Keq
To establish a state of equilibrium, the denominator of Q will become smaller and the numerator will become greater.
Hence, the equilibrium position will shift to right.

(b)
As the equilibrium positive shifts to the right, some PCl₅ decomposes to give PCl₃ and Cl₂.
Hence, the concentration of PCl₅ will decrease.

(c)
In the equation, there are 1 mole of gases molecules on the left and 2 moles on the right.
When the equilibrium position shifts to the right, the number of gaseous molecules increases.
As the number of gaseous molecules increases, the pressure will also increase.
