Is it illegal to drink coffee while driving?

Today on my way to work on a 4 lane street a cop was to the side of me. I was driving with my left hand on the steering wheel and my right hand holding and drinking my coffee thermos.
We were at an intersection at a long red light when he was trying to get my attention waving at me and kept pointing down with his finger. I had no idea what the hell he was talking about then mocked me pretending he was drinking coffee.

I did put it down but I had to drink more so quickly picked it back up sipping on my coffee but he never pulled me over. Why did the officer do this to me. Is it because I'm young and Asian?

Traffic laws are not universal, not global, and in the US, not federal. They are state specific. And without knowing what planet, what country, or what state you are in, it's impossible to know what the laws are where you live.

I can tell you that my brother got pulled over a couple years ago for nothing more than drinking coffee. He was only given a warning, but was told that it is considered "distracted driving", which he could get a ticket for. But that's where we live (in Minnesota). Minnesota laws do not apply to any other state, any other country, or any other planets int he universe.

While driving, you should have your full attention on driving. Texting, being on a cell phone, drinking coffee, etc. means you are NOT paying full attention to your driving.
No,.it isn't because you are young and Asian. Please, just concentrate on your driving, and rink the coffee after you park the car.

Hell no it's not illegal. If you are an adult and driving perfectly fine the cop needs to mind his own business. I drink coffee every damn morning going to work. Never occurred to me a cop would give a damn. Not all cops are a holes but a few are and you encountered one.

He was warning u about drinking coffee
Driving with one hand not focusing on the road. If you had a cup and cup holder you then have a better chance of driving safely. Bit continously holding your coffee no place to put it if you need two hands not KOOL
