Suppose I have a wire of cross sectional area A, and I'm applying a force of F newtons on EACH end of the wire. What will be the stress? Can anyone please explain?

The tension in the wire is F (not 2F by the way).

Stress = force/cross-sectional area = F/A

If F is in newtons and A is in m², the stress is in N/m² (=Pa).

By Newton's 3rd law, there MUST be a 2nd force (in the opposite direction), but the material stress is calculated by F/A, as noted by the other Stephen above.
