The only way tomatoes can kill you is if they have leeched up toxins and chemicals from soil and water. Once upon a time some people they were poisonous because they're a member of the nightshade family which produces a number of toxic plants.

no, back in the middle ages they were thought to be poisonous. what they didn't know was the fact that their cooking ware and plates and utensils were made out of pewter. when the pewter came into contact with the acid in the tomato, it made a poison.
