One questions is Oxygen and Copper are poroduced during the electrolysis of a CuSO4 solution. Which reaction occurs at the negative electrode?
a)Copper atom oxidized
b)Copper ion is reduced
c)Oxygen atom is oxidized
d)Oxygen atom is reduced

Is this also refering to the electrolytic cell because its electrolysis? Thanks

In aqueous CuSO₄ solution, the dissociation of CuSO₄ gives Cu²⁺(aq) and SO₄²⁻(aq) ions, and the self-dissociation of H₂O gives H⁺(aq) and OH⁻(aq) ions.

At the negative electrode (cathode) :
Cu²⁺(aq) and H⁺(aq) ions migrate to the negative electrode. Cu²⁺(aq) is preferentially discharges to give Cu(s). In other words, Cu²⁺(aq) is reduced to Cu(s).

...... The answer is : b) Copper ion is reduced.

Electrolysis is done in electrolytic cell.
