Grammatically, that is correct.

However, that statement is not true.

The total mass of reactants and products in a chemical reaction is the same. If a gas is produced as one (or more) of the products, you might not be prepared to capture and weigh it, but the total mass of the products will equal the total mass of the reactants. If you do this properly and capture any gas products for weighing, then the total mass or reactants equals the total mass of products.

Gas is light and its produced by the reaction of the chemicals. So X of chemicals are being used to make Y of gas.
