Im a 15 year old girl and it's to my french teacher.
Dear Mlle.,
I want to let you know how much you have done for me this year and how much I appreciate what you do. In the beginning of the year, I was having a tough time at home and in school, but I could always look forward to French class. You always manage to put a smile on my face no matter what you had planned that day. Not only did you help me get through the day, but you have truly inspired me to become fluent in French. You have allowed me to fall in love with this beautiful language and encouraged me to continue speaking it throughout my life. When I was struggling in the beginning of the year, my new found love for the French language distracted me and helped me get through the day. Although it may not seem like much, I want you to know it means the world to me. You are by far the best teacher I have ever had and I always enjoy talking to you. I truly admire you as both a person and a teacher and I will really miss you next year, but I know I will find time to visit. As a teacher I know you don’t hear this nearly enough as you should, so I wanted to let you know you have truly inspired me and I will never forget all you have done for me this year.

Weird? No. Maybe just a little "unusual"....But as a former teacher I can promise you one thing....it will likely make her tear up a little, and she will treasure your letter for the rest of her life!
People typically chose to teach because they WANT to reach students, to inspire them to learn, and instill a passion for learning, and Mademoiselle will understand that she has certainly succeeded in doing that for you!
Your letter will be proof for her that she has not wasted her efforts....
You must be a most caring young person....if more were like you this would be a better world by far!

As a teacher I would love to receive a letter like this. It shows that at least I was able to reach one person and that makes teaching worthwhile. Your teacher will keep this letter for the rest of her life and will refer to it when, in some years, she will wonder if teaching is worth it.

The letter is way over the top and, personally, I would be embarrassed to receive it. The letter is not weird but asking the same question 3 times in 1 day is very weird indeed.
