Peppers like warm soil and water. I grow them in 12" pots that have 1/3 sand in with the soil. Put a piece of weed blocker in the bottom to keep the soil from draining out. Use weed blocker that passes water. Pots heat up faster than the ground. If going in ground wait till soil is 70F. Putting in too soon will stall them. Do Not Fertilize till flowers form and then only lightly. I didn't know that and once had a tobasco plant 6' tall, NO PEPPERS! Once the flowers form you will have peppers so a little fertilizer won't hurt. I grow habeneros and jalepenos but the same for all peppers. I use them for hot sauce. You can find a lot about fermenting hot sauce on You Tube. If doing pots, get a water meter so you don't over water. At first when the plant is small, it is easy to drown. As it gets bigger, you might have to water daily.
