Na₂S(s) + aq → 2Na⁺(aq) + S²⁻(aq)

According to the equation, the dissolution of 1 mole of Na₂S gives 2 moles of Na⁺ ions and 1 mole of S²⁻ ions.

Neglecting the hydrolysis of ions in water :
Amount of Na⁺ ions produced = (1 mol) × 2 = 2 mol
Amount of S²⁻ ions produced = 1 mol
Total amount of ions produced = (2 + 1) mol = 3 mol
