How much money do I need in my bank account to issue a personal check?

Enough to cover the check.

The value of the check plus whatever you need to keep on deposit to keep the account open.
Depends on the bank. My dad's bank required $50 in the account at all times. My bank requires $200 minimum at all times.
To prevent both the check from bouncing, as well as additional fees from your bank you will need the amount of the check plus any stated minimum balance required. As an example, my credit union requires a minimum balance of $5 to keep my account open. So if I have $100 in the account, only $95 is available to use.
lol Hopefully a little more than the amount you write the check for or it will get bounced and you will be charged for a bounced check. Also some bank accounts require you to have a minimum amount in the account as well. My account requires that I have at least $300.00 or I will be charged a fee.
Obviously enough to cover the check.
