Is is dangerous to sue the police department?

A friend told me it's dangerous to sue the police department. That they will make your life horrible-try to run you out of town by pulling you over for every little thing, etc.

They also told me the police are known to make people disapear who sue them-and they know how to do it.

Is she correct? Can the police department do the opposite and keep a low profile? Since they're being sued and don't want the bad publicity.

They can make your life really annoying.

I won't say it has never happened, but if you have a case, you are generally free to file a suit, and if the cops harass you, you can have them arrested for witness tampering.

She is a little paranoid. They don't disappear people. That's absurd. They can make your life hell, however that's where the power of the press comes in. You make the press aware of the suit and then it looks funky if the cops harass you.

Of course you have to live like an angel because they will be watching you every minute, waiting for a screw up to use against you.

It is also very hard to win a case against the cops unless you have great video and no criminal record.

I guess. Steven Avery sued the Manitowoc Police Department for him being wrongfully convicted of rape. The police there ruined his life, and now he's serving a life sentence for something he probably didn't do. All because he wanted the cops to acknowledge that they took 18 years of his life away, and especially because his family isn't wealthy.
