Hi, I recently immigrated from the UK to America (Massachusetts).
I need to get a Massachusetts drivers license for my job but was wondering if I need to take the exam and the practical driving test to get my license or can I just apply for the license using my valid uk drivers license.
I already have a car, insurance and a uk drivers license all I need is my Massachusetts drivers license but I don t think it makes sense for the dmv to make me retake the tests if I already am insured to drive in Massachusetts and have been driving here legally for months now.
Does anyone know if I need to take the written test and the drivers test or can I just apply for the license using my UK drivers license, it would save a lot of time and money, thanks in advance.

You will need to take a Massachusetts driving test (written and practical). You can only legally drive on your UK licence for 30 days as a new resident and for 90 days as a visitor.
Unlike many countries, you can't exchange a UK driving licence for a US one - this is partly because each state issues their own licence; and US states are not allowed to enter into international agreements on their own authority.
Don't worry, US driving tests are laughably easy compared with British ones.

Simply take your UK derivers license and go to a Mass. DMV office and "swap" your UK license for a Mass license. There will be fees.

Use the link below to practice for your theory test. It's laughably easy, I've yet to register a fail mark even though I live in England

Everyone switching states takes the written test to show the know MA rules, you will too. Don't know about the road test, possible with you coming from the UK. Get the drivers hand book and read up before you go.
