Striped a small piece of bark off my 12 foot tall tree?
I was cutting off a small lower limb today and as I grabbed the limb and didn't notice some bark still attached, a strip of about 2-3 inches by maybe an inch wide patch of bark was removed.
It's not a huge section of bark by any means. Will this mistake kill my tree?

According to biology, the bark is composed of tough, corky outer covering of a woody stem or trunk and the
purpose is to prevent from damage which might be caused by hitting or weathering. In its stem or trunk, the inner layers are composed of the vascular plant tissues such as phloem and xylem and the former is responsible for carrying dissolved food materials downward while the latter for water and dissolved materials upward and its functions also in support and storage. In view of that, if there is any attack damaged to phloem and xylem then the plant will die gradually.
Yip
the tree should heal itself but to be safe you could brush some gloss paint over the wound to seal it from bugs or fungus
A healthy tree will usually heal if you don't mess with it.
Of course it will prepare for the funeral. I make caskets if your interested....
