In some places where it hasn't been a big deal, similar policies have been in place for a decade plus. So it can work. In a number of other places going back to the 90's with the unisex push, they have lasted less then a year due to the increase of sexual assaults. As many have pointed out Trans have been using their choice, going about their business without any issue for quite a while. It seems when the attention is all ramped up, that it becomes this big deal like it is in some places, that issues suddenly start to crop up.
