How often should I replace my water gallon?

I'm on the journey to getting my body into shape. And I know drinking a plentiful amount of water can help. So I like to drink a gallon a day. I buy a Poland spring plastic gallon and drink it then refill it. I know it smells after a while, but how often should I change it? Once a week? Twice?
