As zinc is in a higher position in electrochemical series than iron (or as zinc is more reactive than iron), electrons flow from the zinc electrode to the iron electrode.

Reaction occurring at the zinc electrode :
Zn(s) → Zn²⁺(aq) + 2e⁻

Reaction occurring at the iron electrode :
2H⁺(aq) + 2e⁻ → H₂(g)

Equation for the overall reaction occurring in the cell :
Zn(s) + 2H⁺(aq) → Zn²⁺(aq) + H₂(g)
