Honda crv 1998, automatic. Engine light came on yesterday. Still on today.?

No battery light just engine light comes on. They used a scanner thing and told me the code us a faulty alternator

Still don't know that when the CEL comes on you're supposed to go to either the dealer or an auto parts store and get the codes read that are stored in the computer once the CEL comes on huh? If that's the case I'll have to ask if the red battery light is on too. That's the battery not charging warning light that means the alternator is probably not working. Have the battery and alternator tested at the auto store too. They do that for free.

The engine light is an alert to tell you that something is wrong with the engine. The list of possibilities is very long and can only be revealed by plugging a reader in to the OBDII port. Many places read this for free but you need to go to a trusted garage and have them read it and give advice as to what to do.
