Using the half-equation method, write a balanced redox equation for the
following reaction, which occurs in an acidic aqueous medium.
N2H4 (g) + BrO3

(aq) → N2 (g) + Br−
(aq)

Oxidation half equation :
N₂H₄(g) → N₂(g) + 4H⁺(aq) + 4e⁻
The above oxidation half equation is multiplied by 3 :
3N₂H₄(g) → 3N₂(g) + 12H⁺(aq) + 12e⁻ ...... [*]

Reduction half equation :
BrO₃⁻(aq) + 6H⁺(aq) + 6e⁻ → Br⁻(aq) + 3H₂O(l)
The above reduction half equation is multiplied by 2 :
2BrO₃⁻(aq) + 12H⁺(aq) + 12e⁻ → 2Br⁻(aq) + 6H₂O(l) ...... [#]

[*] + [#], and cancel 12H⁺(aq) and 12e⁻ on the both sides. The balanced redox equation is :
3N₂H₄(g) + 2BrO₃⁻(aq) →3N₂(g) + 2Br⁻(aq) + 6H₂O(l)
