Fast mile time?

What is considered a fast mile time? I'm 13 years old and my mile time is 6:28 minutes. Is that fast? What's your mile time?

Sounds fast to me, certainly faster than I've ever run a mile. Keep up the good work. Everyone runs at their own pace, and it's good to run as fast as you can, or want to for that matter, without putting your energy into how fast or slow others are moving around you.

That is fast.

6:28 is a very fast time, you should be proud of yourself :) I'd say anything below 7:30 is considered a "fast" mile time. When I was 13, my mile time was around 8:20 (which was a B in that class :/), so yes, your time is considered fast.

If you are running simply for gym class then a 6:28 is fine and at 13 is actually pretty good but if you are doing track then you should probably get a little better to compete at the JV level. I ran a 5:42 in 7th grade and then in 8th grade improved to a 5:25. Right now I'm finishing up my 9th grade track season running around a 5:09 and going either first or second. So if you are looking to be competitive then keep working because it only takes one year to improve to a competitive level in JV. If you aren't doing track then think about doing it, once you get good enough to win it becomes a lot of fun plus you gain a big and great group of friends who share a common interest, running.

Fast compared to average, average when compared to the best. The best at ages 13-14 is a few seconds above 5 minutes. That's a good time though and shows lots of potential if you work hard.

I'm 14 and that's about what I have now. The fastest I know of in the area I live is a 5:45 so you ain't far behind. Keep working!
