for the following reaction, the total pressure at equilibrium is 6.5atm. at 303k

PCl5(s)------>PCl3(g)+Cl2(g)

(a) write the equilibrium constant express in Kp

(b)calculate Kp and Kc for this reaction.

(a)
PCl₅(s) → PCl₃(g) + Cl₂(g)
Kp = P(PCl₃) × P(Cl₂)


(b)
At eqm :
P(PCl₃) = P(Cl₂) = 6.5/2 = 3.25 atm
Kp = P(PCl₃) × P(Cl₂) = 3.25² = 10.6 (atm²)

PV = nRT
Concentration = n/V = P/(RT)
Kc = [PCl₃][Cl₂] = P(PCl₃)/(RT) × P(Cl₂)/RT = 3.25²/[0.0821 × (273+303)]² = 0.00472 [(mol/L)²]
