On a cold winter day (5oC), the foundation block for a statue is filled with 2.0m3 of concrete. By how much will the concrete's volume increase on a very warm summer day (35oC) if its volume of expansion is 4.0x10-5/oC.(2400cm3)

Original volume, Vₒ = 2.0 m³ = 2.0 × 10⁶ cm³Coefficient of volume expansion, α = 4.0 × 10⁻⁵ /°C
Change in temperature, ΔT = (35 - 5)°C
Volume of expansion, ΔV
= Vₒ α ΔT
= (2.0 × 10⁶) × (4.0 × 10⁻⁵) × (35 - 5) cm³
= 2400 cm³

ΔV = Vo*λ*ΔT = 2*10^6*40*10^-6*(35-5) = 2*40*30 = 2400 cm^3
