a)
dependent variable = labor hours required
independent variable = amount of cubic feet moved
b)
Mean value of the “Cubic Feet” = 593.2
Mean value of the “Labor Hours” = 25.825
Slope of the regression equation (b) = 0.039901
The value of Y Intercept (a) = 2.1558
The regression equation =
y= 0.0399x +2.1558
Correlation Coefficient (r) = 0.89915
The estimated labor hours for moving 500 feet3 =
y= 0.0399 (500) +2.1558 = 22.1058 labor hours

c)
As the amount of cubic feet moved increases bu 1 unit, the amount of labor increases by 0.0399 hours
d)
r^2 = (0.89915)^2 = 0.8085
80.85 % of the variation in labor hours is explained by the amount of cubic feet moved.
e)
y= 0.0399 (1500) +2.1558 = 62.0058 labor hours
f)
No. The value of 1500 is outside the range of the labor hours given. Extrapolation is not allowed in regression analysis.
