In psychiatric hospitals are patients of different disorders mixed together?

In a general psychiatric hospital would patients of different disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression etc all be kept together or would there be separate words for each disorder?
更新1:

Also, in quite highly secure units such as those for schizophrenics, how often (if at all) would visitation of family/friends be allowed?

For the most part, yes.... some of it depends on the hospital... if is a general hospital then have only a small psych ward and everyone is together. If it is a full sized mental hospital then they often have a separate ward for drug addicts and one for children and one for eating disorders... but the rest of us crazies (Bipolar (me), Schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and yes, violent and brought in by the police..... they are usually removed by the police 3 days later) all get to go to the same ward. I've never even seen violent patients separated.... Once there was this chick that insisted on showing everyone her boobs (was kinda funny) and after a couple of days they caught her having sex with one of the male patients so they moved her to another ward.... it was still a general psych ward just away from the guy.

Update - there are no special high security units for Schizophrenics. 99% of schizophrenics are harmless. Each state generally has one hospital for the "criminally insane" but that's based on behavior, NOT diagnosis and would likely have WAY more sociopaths than schizophrenics. ALL psych units are locked. If more security is needed then that person is generally taken to jail if they can't be medicated into drooling submission.

We had visitation daily during the week for an hour or so and twice on weekend days.

UK answer;

You are designated a bed in a ward according to where you live in the county not by the condition that you have. There is a psychiatric intensive care unit [PICU] for patients that need a higher level of nursing care. I've been in PICU before for running away from the acute ward and being a high suicide risk.

Visiting times in my local psych unit are 09:00 to 21:30 every day and that includes the PICU unit. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and you are asked to avoid meal times, handover times and at times when therapies and activities are taking place.

It really depends on the hospital. But usually people are all mixed in together unless they have a particularly dangerous mental illness. Special clinics also exist. These clinics are specialized for a specific mental illness. Like anorexia for example, they would only focus on treating the disease. Just depends on the place.

There are no separate wards.

Violent patients might be separated, but that's it.
