Is a decimal, eg. 2.5 or a fraction, eg. 3/4 a scalar? Or are only whole numbers like 1,2,3,4,5,6 scalars?

A vector has a direction
30o west of south with a magnitude of 10.
Xo east of North with a magnitude of y

Since your example of 1,2,3,4,5,6 are numbers with no direction indicated, they are all scalars.

A scalar can be a variable. What it can't have is direction, like a vector; it has only magnitude.
