Why would I want to? Because a person might steal a computer or external hard drive, but who in their right mind would want to steal VHS tapes?

A few companies manufactured backup hardware with videotape as the storage medium, from about 1980 to the mid-90s. I believe the controllers were all ISA architecture, which can't be used with any modern computer. One example is VideoTrax from Alpha Microsystems.

Possible...yes...worth the trouble and expense...no! Buy a external hard drive of the size you want. A 1TB hard drive can be had for about $40 these days. A 2TB hard drive would cost about $60. Either of these would give you tremendous backup space for a long time.

A VHS E-180 tape is able to save up to 1.95GB of data and to be able to save data to a VHS tape you will need a special hardware that most likely doesn't even exist, but probably you can modify an old VHS Recorder and write a driver.
