How can I convince my mom to let me go to the mall with someone in my age group?

For my upcoming 15th birthday, my aunt wants to take me shopping. And I'm perfectly fine with that, but I think it would be more fun if I had another teenager to go with as well. There is a 15 year old and two 16 year olds I could bring with me, but she thinks I should spend time alone with my aunt for some reason. My aunt doesn't care, though, just my mom. Anything to convince her?

Has it occurred to you that if your aunt wants to take you shopping for your birthday, she wants to buy you stuff. And then it's bad etiquette if you have friends along, because it could guilt-trip your aunt into spending on your friends too, which is no way fair. I think your mom is quite right to raise objections to this. Go with your aunt and have a fun time with just her.

Your mom is trying to teach you a bit of courtesy. Your aunt invited you shopping so she could spend some time alone with you, as a "just us girls" outing. By inviting another friend along it is like you are saying to your aunt "I'm perfectly happy to let you take me shopping, and your money is OK, but you are boring".
Is that the message you want to give your aunt?
I know you said your aunt doesn't care, but that is something a loving auntie would say to her niece, even if she doesn't mean it.
Sure, it's your birthday, and you deserve to be treated special. But being treated special doesn't mean you get to stomp over someone else's feelings, especially when they are trying to treat you to a fun outing.
So, no I am not going to help you convince your mom to allow you to be rude, and inconsiderate.

Why not set up 2 separate outings? I fully understand why you might not want to go alone with your aunt, but I understand even more why your mom wants you to. In fact, it was pretty rude of you to try to change the outing your aunt wanted. She probably wanted to spend time with you, make you feel special, and buy something for you. She might have said she didn't mind, but I'm sure deep down it hurt her feelings a bit. If she had wanted to treat you to a group outing at the mall, that's what she would have offered.

So I suggest you tell your aunt you're excited about her plans and then drop it. Don't ask your mom to help you be rude. I would not be happy if my 15 year acted like this.
