What African countries witnessed World War II?

Yeah north Africa...Plus don't forget there was also the east african campaign.. Oh and if i remember correctly, in Africa an international war was already underway in Ethiopia since 1935 involving soldiers from 17 nations and 3 different continents!

all of them witnessed it. Fighting occurred in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya (Cyrenaica), Egypt, Somalia (Italian Somaliland), Eritrea, Ethiopia (Abyssinia), and Senegal (at Dakar). Britain drew troops from the Dominion of South Africa, Nigeria (King's African Rifles), Northern Rhodesia, Kenya, Sudan, and a few other places. The French drew troops from Equatorial Africa, as well as Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Senegal. The Belgians drew troops from the Congo. The Italians drew troops from Eritrea and Somaliland.

Many of those African countries which did have some part in WW2, either by action or by contributing troops, now have different names from those borne in the 1940s, due to decolonisation in the 1950s and 1960s.

Battles took place against Rommel in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Abyssinia (Ethiopia now), Eritrea, Sudan, Italian Somalia (the British colony was called Somaliland) & Senegal.
The British recruited many in Nigeria. South Africans (WASP) got recruited in British Army. The French (partisans) drew from many of their colonies, over which Nazi Germany was yet to exercise control, being too busy in Europe. Belgium (partisans) drew from DR Congo, Ruanda-Urundi. All these soldiers were deployed in European & Asian theatres of War.
