You don't need someone to help you. Take guidance from God. Bible is not a book but a collection of 66 heterogeneous books written by different authors over thousands of years. Each book was addressed to different audiences who lived at different points of time. The most important books of the Bible are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. These 4 books are small and record the teaching of Jesus. First, read these 4 books and understand the mind of Jesus. You may start with Luke 10:25-37 where Jesus answers the question, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Yes, the very objective of our life on earth is to earn our entry to eternal life in God's kingdom. After having understood the mind of Jesus, you can explore the other books.
Reading the whole Bible usually results in abandoning Christianity. The Bible is a nonsense filled book.
It is respectful and would be considered an act of worship to read through from the beginning. There are some magnificent stories about real people which help to build up a complete picture. If you are Spirit - filled you may well receive guidance as you read. So these people who are advising you to cherry - pick are wrong on that one.
How many people read a fictional book and start half way through? Or indeed, watch a movie one hour in? You may miss a crucial part of the plot.
Reading maybe 20 mins each night before bed is also an important part of spiritual training.
If you don't, you may miss something really important which will leave you confused at a later time.
In modern days many people find the Bible too boring but remember it is about real people and gives a crucial insight into why the New Testament came into being.
I think a lot of Christians will focus primarily on the New Testament.
Whether you have the ability to read all the way through or not will depend on how much you care about the lives of other people. Anyone who is too self-focused will probably not be able to read it at all!
You may conclude that Almighty God decided that because of the bloodshed which was caused supposedly in His name through the centuries, He had to create a new way. That way was, of course, Jesus, The Christ, The Messiah.
The clue is often found in what non-believers say, ironically. You will find that God is like the greatest gardener, allowing creation to live, breathe and grow and only pruning back when unmanageable. When roses and beautiful flowers are surrounded by weeds and suckers, they need to be removed so that the beauty can grow without being choked or killed completely. I know what the arguments will be but why should beauty be spoiled or destroyed?
To have the right relationship with God you must accept all of Him not just the bits you find appealing.
Almighty God always has a plan to prosper those He calls His own and always does things for the good of those who love Him and who appreciate the gift of life which He and He alone has given.
Trust me hun, ur answer and what you say is just as valid as anyone with a Ph.D. People who are really dumb are those who are lost. If ANYONE tries to put you down just tell them JESUS SAID "You have to be like a child to see!" How many kids do you know that have a Ph.D.??
At the end when all are before Almighty God on the day of judgement, intellect will count for absolutely nothing!
Of course you should. I've read the Bible cover to cover as a believer, as an agnostic, and as an atheist. Why in the world would you *not* read the scriptures you profess to believe and follow?
.
.
Sure, nothing wrong with reading it, but do NOT just start at the beginning and try to read it all the way to the end. It will not make as much sense as you want it to, and you will end up bored stiff and lose interest
There are books that can guide you and suggest an order for things you should read. Use google to look up things like guide books to the bible.
It is important to remember that the bible was created by people, and very knowledgeable and experienced scholars have different opinions about what should be included. There have been many translations over the centuries, and often times, the specific wording of well known sections has been changed by the person or group that ordered a new translation.
You might also want to read the book "Misquoting Jesus" by Bart Ehrman. Ehrman is a biblical scholar who explains a lot about how the bible came to be in its current form and how several well know sections have been changed from one translation to another.
Yes, you *should* read the entire Bible.
That is a wonderful goal to set for yourself!
The early Christians not only read the Scriptures, but thoroughly studied them as well:
"[For] they accepted the word with the greatest eagerness of mind,
carefully examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
"Therefore, many of them became believers.
So did quite a few of the reputable Greek women as well as some of the men."
(Acts 17:11-12)
Christians are warned:
"Beloved ones, do *not* believe every inspired statement, but *test* the inspired statements to see whether they originate with God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1)
"Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine." (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
So . . . besides reading & studying it, since it is made up of many different books written at different times in history . . . &, has information regarding important subjects often scattered in different books . . . I do recommend thoroughly familiarizing yourself with it, first. Get acquainted with the different characters . . . even each penman . . . before reading books they recorded can deepen your appreciation.
Personally, I quit going to church when I started asking for answers to my questions, & the answers they gave could not be found in the very copy of the Bible they had given me. I kept asking those questions, though, & eventually found a person who gave me a study guidebook for God's Word. . . .
I didn't believe they or their book knew the answers, but had asked God in prayer to reveal himelf to me, so I determined to read the book up until I found it disagreeing with the teachings in God's Word. . . .
I began reading it when I went to bed, stopping to look up every Bible verse it referred to, then reading those in my Bible. I was very surprised --but, wuite relieved-- that everything it said rang true with Bible teachings!
That study-guidebook was published about 40 years ago, & is no longer being used, but I'd like to share with you a similar book that is available (n/c) online for you to use:
"What Can the Bible Teach Us?"
https://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/bible-study/
This covers main teachings in the Bible . . . providing Scripture reference-links you can use to open the verse, read, & compare it with what the book says.
An introductory brochure --which shows how the main events in the Bible all tie together, regarding its main theme throughout, is:
"The Bible—What Is Its Message?"
https://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/bible-message/
This guides you through the main events of Genesis & covers the main events up to & including the book of Revelations --also offering Scriptures to compare together & with the text-- in only 32 pages. I found it to be a very interesting read, as well.
Some have said that each gospel is basically the same as the others, but they were written as letters to different audiences, and each contains things that others do not. I recommend a book which compiles the events of all four of them . . . in chronological order, and without repetition . . .
"Jesus—The Way, the Truth, the Life"
https://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/jesus/
Those who write, publish, & distribute those publications also offer a free Bible-study course, also free of charge, to interested ones, if you would like to look into that. I enjoyed mine immensely, finally discovering the answers to all my Bible-related questions!
Yes sweetie. I can't see how you can be a Christian and not read the Bible. You are basically taking your pastor's word for it without seeing it for yourself.
The fact of the matter, Yes you should read your bible and pray, and stay out of the churches, because the church age is over, and Satan the man of sin is ruling in all of the churches now, Satan wanted to be like the most high God so God granted Satan, his wish to rule in all of the churches and the world, until the end of the world, Satan was bound and chained for 1000 years but the 1000 years is up and now Satan the man of sin is loosed upon the world like a roaring lion, seeking to destroy everything that God Jesus Christ has created from the beginning of the whole world, because Satan knows that he only has a little season until God Jesus Christ comes back to judge the living and the dead and too destroy the heaven and the earth by fire, the second death, where the heaven and the earth shall be burned up, by the hell fires. Also the reason the bible is so hard is because it was written by the mouth of God, and most people do not recognize that God wrote the bible, they think that man wrote the bible, and that is impossible, because man is not that intelligent to write a book that complicated with all of those prophecy to come true an all will come true, before that great and terrible day of the Lord comes, judgment day, when God destroys the heaven and the earth by fire, the second death, where the heaven and the earth shall be burned up by the hell fires. Read Revelation 18:4 read Matthew 24:15 read 11 Thessalonians 2:3-4 read 1 Peter 4:17 read Galatians 5:17-23

You don't have to. The Bible is not a book but a 'library' with many different books in it. Reading it from start to finish is not necessary. Also, some books have the same stories, so you would not always want to reread the same story.
If I were you, I'd start with Luke and John, Corinthians, James and a couple of other short letters. Read Genesis and Exodus. Some of the Old Testament reading are difficult; ones like Ruth are much easier to read. Samuel 1 and 2 are good too. For things like the Psalms and Proverbs, don't read it from start to finish, but read just a few at a time. This way, you'll start to get a sense of both the Old and New Testament. After, if you feel ready, go onto the harder books, like Numbers, Joshua, Kings, Romans and Hebrews. Leviticus and Revelations are probably the hardest to understand, so I'd keep those as the last books to read.
Yes, read it. You will find that it says very different things from what folks tell you it says. That's why I read it.
It's a daunting task that many try and get discouraged over. Rather, start with the gospels. Mark first, to get the basic story, then Matthew, where Jesus explains the Law and the Old Testament, then Luke. Read them a couple of times to get the story straight. Then John, the most theological of the gospels, best understood once the ways of Jesus are known.
Forgive me.

Yes, read it everyday, You can read 4 chapters a day and you will finish it in less than a year, but read especially the New Testament, it has a lot of things that apply to our daily life's, The Old Testament is great to but it shows us more about who God is and some history,
Plus you don't have to stop at the beginning, you can start with the New Testament and i would recommend it,
Also totally agree with you about church, preacher's don't even look like they spent time preparing the sermon,
I can explain many things about the Bible for you, just ask and i will try my best to answer. Good luck.
I did at least 2-3 times. and still reading.

2 Timothy 3:16,17
16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.
Yes we should read !

Yes, obviously.
參考: Common sense.
If you want to completely LOSE your faith then read the whole thing. You'll come to see just how ridiculous and unbelievable it really is. If you want to keep your faith, then just mindlessly listen to the crap that comes out of the preachers mouth and your current views on what you think the bible says.
Talk to Jehovah's witnesses. They can help you learn the bible
What you need is a Bible study with the Jehovah Witnesses.
I suggest you read the Book of John in the New Testament. Try to get a newer version of the Bible. The Living Bible, the New King James and New International are far easier to understand. What I used to do after church was to look up the scriptures that the preacher used. See if it is true. If not, you need to find another church. Keep praying and ask God for guidance.
Hello. When you read God's Word the Bible it is to learn knowledge of God. Jesus said at John 17:3 "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." Reading the whole Bible is not as important as understanding what you read. The Bible is not a story or a fairy tale. People try to read it front cover to cover like a novel and get confused and say that it is contradicting. In actuality it is the inspired Word of Jehovah God's will and purpose for mankind and compiled letters of instruction. (2 Timothy 3:16,17) The theme of the Kingdom and Jehovah’s name are closely interwoven with information on many subjects within the books. The number of languages the Bible has been translated, its surpassing greatness as a literary masterpiece, its accurate historical work that penetrates the past to great depths, and its overwhelming importance to all mankind is evidence it is from God. When Jesus was on earth he said God's Kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth. (Matthew 24:14) To help you with Bible reading and understanding you can go to the website JW.org. There you will find an array of publications and dvds that you can look at from your computer. Also at the bottom of first page you will find a form to request a free home Bible study, if interested.
I think you'd be better off having someone read "A Child's Collection of Bible Stories" to you. I have my doubts you'd be able to comprehend the bible and understand those big words like "begat," and "sin."
When Jehovah’s Witnesses come to your door, ask them for a Bible study.
Yes, read the whole bible and take note of the many contradictions...
You have MANY responses. Some of the advice is very good while ,much is less good. You are 20, I am 60. I have ben a believer in the God of creation described in the first book, Genesis, for more than 45 years. The bible is quite reliable, though some scholars disagree about it. But there are a number of different types of writing in the bible. One is historical narrative: this type of writing gives historical facts about actual peole who existed. Genesis, Exodus, Chronicles, Samuel, Kings, of the old testament and the first four books of the new testament and Acts are these types. Read these at your own pace to learn about bible history and bible characters such as Moses, Abraham, Jacob, David, Jesus and the disciple group of 12. Psalms is poetry and songs, mostly written by David, king David, the one who killed goliath the philistine written about in Ist Samuel. Proverbs is just that: proverbs or wise sayings written by Solomon, the son of David. There are 31 chapters in proverbs so you can read one chapter each day along with whatever else you are reading such as Genesis, or Mark, or Ist kings. Another type of writing in the bible is prophecy. These books , such as Isaiah, Ezekial or Malachi, are written accounts of men who said things that WOULD come to pass in the future, usually advice to Israel (which is the ancient land and people of Israel, the Hebrews, or the Jewish people of today. All the biblical writers were Jewish as well as almost every character of any significance in the bible). It is fun and sensible to keep track of book and chapters you have read so that you can read the entire bible if you want, or to know which parts you have already read. It is a good idea to underline or mark verses you like in highlighter or a colored pen or pencil. They will be easy to find and re-read again later. You CAN use a purchased guide to help you decide what to read first. Some of these take you though the entire bible in one year with a selection of parts to read for each day. There is no right or wrong way. These suggestions work for some people. Now, you may have questions about what you read. There are a LOT of differences in answers. If you aren't sure about that, just look at how many Christian denominations, types of churches exist and you will see there is no unity. Like I said, it is a Jewish writing, not a Christian writing. In the Jewish faith there is more unity, only about six different groups but they differ mostly on how literally you should take what is written in the bible. Prayer is not taught in the bible but many characters in it Do PRAY. YOU should too. Prayer is basically just a conversation with God. You don't need anyone to help you talk to God. Think of him as your father, a PERFECT one, not like our earthly fathers who make mistakes because they are human like us all. God will sometimes answer you in various ways. To Samuel in the bible, God spoke audibly to him. Young Samuel heard his actual voice. You will come across this in your reading. God spoke audibly several times. But you might more often :hear" his answer to you in your mind. The difference is you will be able to tell it is not YOUR thought but that it came into your mind all the same, just not from you. About answers to your questions, try to find answers to them in your bible. Men ,(people) even preachers, often give answers based on what someone ELSE told them. Your answers, if they are good, real ones, should always agree with the bible. You can always count on the bible to be right but you can't say the same about mankind's answers to spiritual questions. I hope something I said here helps you.
If you feel you want to or need to, then you should.
But I'd say two things, if you're questioning your faith because of sermons then read the bible subjectively, and secondly, don't gain your thoughts or beliefs from a film. It's made to gain viewed not to show a system of belief, so is objective.
yes, when you pray, you talk to God. When you read his word, he responds. He talks to you. Communication. Its like in the case of any loved one. You try to communicate as much as possible
Don't read the "new" versions, stick to the King James Version. The new ones have changed the meaning of the scripture. Read Hebrews 1 for the nature of Christ. We are Gods spirit children, created in His image. Christ is God's flesh and blood child, so He looks exactly like Him. God is our literal Father, he has a glorified (beyond description) body of flesh and bone. When Christ was resurrected He came back and showed His disciples His body. Read Job 38:4-7. It tells us we were with God in the pre-existence in spirit, when He laid the foundation of the earth. Read Isaiah 65 16-17 for why the Earth is fair, (it will not even be remembered in heaven) the only thing that matters is what YOU DO, not what is done TO YOU. This is a learning time and a testing time, the gospel is here on earth in its fullness. Straight is the gate and narrow is the way. Pray to be humble enough to receive it.
Yes, you should. You should study up on what evidence there is on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) afternoons. You can look up websites and books if you want to learn more, there is a lot of information on youtube.com as well. But you should and read a couple of chapters a day. If it is a really long one, which there are a few in the Holy Bible. Then set it aside for the next day by itself.

If you want to keep you faith the don't read the bible it's without a doubt the fastest way to convert a theist into an atheist why do you think atheists know more about your religion then you do ? They read the bible
Read the whole Bible because it will give you the ability to challenge your pastors. As you read make a note of everything in the Bible that is today considered illegal, immoral or scientifically wrong. Then ask your pastors why such Biblical stories are considered good or true.
Sure. I would start with the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These books have what Jesus actually said and did. This is bedrock of Christianity. Next hit Acts and the Letter of Paul (all the rest of the New Testament except for Revelations). Save Revelations for last. These books show how early Christianity tried to create a church basis upon the Gospel. Remember that the Gospel is supreme, since they have Jesus' words and deeds, and are more important than Acts and the Letters of Paul. Then read the first five books of the Bible, which will give you a history of the early Jewish faith. This faith is where Christianity came from. The later books in the Old Testament shows a progression of the early Jewish faith until a few hundred years before Christ. In this you will see a progression from a closed, local religion, to a more worldly religion, to a more inclusive religion, spreading its influence and diversity. Read Revelations last.
Eventually.
I would first start with the book of Mark since it is the shortest gospel. However, it’s only natural for you to have questions as you study it (Ac 8:30-31), but if you don’t have anyone to help you answer them, it can get discouraging. Therefore I would recommend enrolling in a free internet (or email) Bible school where there should be teachers to help answer any questions you may have. Keep praying to God for help and guidance.
Yes! Read the entire bible--but don't read it quickly like you would read a romance novel. We are commanded to MEDITATE on God's word. Read a verse and then think about how it relates to your life or would relate to your life in the future. Then move on to the next verse, and do the same thing again. Do this for about a half hour or more. I would advise you to begin with the book of John in the new testament and then Proverbs, Psalms, and the other books of the old testament.
Also repent, get saved, and bear fruit by helping people in order to get raptured into heaven and escape this year's tribulation disasters. We are in the end times, so get ready NOW!
Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Here is the best answer for this as far as I am concerned. If you want to.
I mean if you want to understand the bible you'll need more than just the bible to do it , kind of a flaw of the bible really. I think the best thing to do is to read multiple commentaries on the bible. A jewish commentary, a Christian commentary, and a skeptics commentary. Reading something like the skeptics annotated bible whilst reading the KJV and it's commentary will provide you with multiple interpretations and help you form a more rounded spirituality. You may also wish to read something like the imitation of Christ or parts of the Talmud (everyman's Talmud is a good and cheap book on this) to help you get an idea of what the bible becomes when It is translated to real world actions.
Yes because the world needs more Atheists. And yes, the bible is so horrible it will turn you into an Atheist.
The best advice I received in the beginning was DO NOT START AT GENESIS !!!
The "Bible" is TWO Testaments .. for TWO separate covenants with God.
The first (Old Testament) was the covenant with ancient Israel .. (not the current covenant)
Jesus Christ was born to bring the new covenant ~ between God and Christian believers...
and that means believers anywhere, from any country.
The church began in Jerusalem, Israel (not Rome) and the documented RECORD of the
first churches is set in the book of ACTS... starting especially in chapter 1 and chapter 2
That's an important foundation to understand the Bible.
Then read the 4 "gospel"books .. (Matthew/ Mark/ Luke/ John) ~ biographies of Jesus
and His ministry .. what He taught the Apostles to go out and teach the world.
The very best gospel book is JOHN .. He was very close to Jesus, and knew Him better
than anyone else.
The books after Acts were letters written to the churches after they began. Guidelines
and doctrine - to help them stay on track.
hint: .. leave Revelation for a while .. until you get an understanding of the basics.
essential: .. pray before you read, and ask the Lord to open your understanding.
. . . He will do that by the Holy Spirit leading you - if you genuinely want the truth.
God bless you .. enjoy !!
yes every single word and after each sentence compare it to what REALITY tells you especially the EXTRAORDINARY CLAIMS
Start with the most important books -- the gospels. Or even just 1. I suggest the Gospel of Luke. Use a clear translation like the NIV translation.
Some things Christ said will be clear immediately. Some things will become clear later. This is how it is for everyone.
That's a lot of reading, honestly when I read it I just flip it open to a page and start reading. It still makes sense and you can still get a message that way. The bible is a literary masterpiece if you ask me. It predicted a lot of future events so many people focus on all the prophecies and revelations and that really isn't necessary. Jesus says that many will come in his name predicting the end of the world, but he warns us not to listen to them. These people are frauds and scammers, either trying to make money or they actually think the world is going to end because they are misguided. They get nothing out of the bible except for the fact that the world is going to end soon. It's really ironic because they are reading a book that talks about how flawed humans really are and how we need God to save us from ourselves. So no, Don't read the bible from start to finish like you would read a book. The bible is not a story, it is a collection of stories. If you want to read it like a book, read each individual book in the bible from start to finish. Not the whole thing.
If you have time. It is not important. Only fiction.
No! I suggest that you study the Bible either by yourself or with a small group.
Yes, it is a wonderful LIFE restoring book & UPLIFTING....
If you do not own a Bible you can go to
www.jw.org--or better yet--go to any Kingdom Hall (check the phone listings for KINGDOM HALL of Jehovah's witnesses) attend a meeting and ASK for a Bible) and they will GIVE YOU ONE FOR FREE---it is also a reference Bible with maps & a LOT OF INFORMATION.
What more could you want? Your questions answered from the Bible? They will happily do that without any cost to YOU!
God bless~
While it is not necessary to read from the beginning, it is recommended that you do. If you have trouble UNDERSTANDING the Bible - Don't Worry, EVERYONE DOES including pastors and even scholars and professors of the subject and many don't even agree about what certain passages mean but, this is because it was meant to mean different things to different people depending upon their circumstances and the same passages can have one meaning to you at one point in your life and yet, years later as you grow and gain life experience, it can take on an entirely new meaning, whether it is the inspired word of God or not it is an amazing work and well worth your time to study it as the lessons it provides will aid you throughout your life. Peace and Good-Luck!!
Yes and No. You can start by reading the four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These four gospels will give you many insights of the life and teachings of Christ, but keep in mind many verses has been changed to support the Doctrine of the Trinity. The Doctrine of the Trinity was invented by the early church at Rome who then change the original manuscripts of the Apostles to support it. When reading the Bible ask God to show you the truth of his word. Jesus said that his Father will answer every prayer that is good and beneficial for our spiritual upliftment. May God grant and guide you as you search for the truth.
You needn't read it cover to cover just to say you did. That's called overload. Pray and ask for giudance in your Bible Study. Use the Bible as a reference, the way you do an encyclopedia. I accepted salvation when I was 9, I'm 45 now, and have never read the entire Bible cover to cover. I use it to study, and seek.
Yes you should read the whole Bible. It would be good for you to know exactly where you came from and it would be good to know about God.
Yes. You should read the entire bible. A King James bible, not the new revised editions that twist everything.
Dear Friend,
I strongly encourage you to get yourself a New Living Translation (NLT) Bible. You can also read it online.
God's desire, is to commune/fellowship with His creation. But...it is OUR sin that 'blocks' that covenant relationship with a Holy God. In order to establish a relationship with someone, you get to "know" them...personally.
God's Word is His "Personal (Spiritual) Instruction Manual" for man to live a safe, abundant life 'in' Him. It is His "Love Letter" to you and you should 'personalize' it. Ask the Lord for the Holy Spirit to teach your spirit, spiritual truth.
I have 'personalized' Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV) New International Version, for you below:
11 "For I know the plans I have for you (insert your name),” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you (insert your name) and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you (insert your name). 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me (insert your name) with all your heart."
Enjoy a 'real' intimate and personal relationship with the Lover of your soul. It is the most exciting adventure you will ever experience in your life.
Tender blessings,
Read the new testament first.
Start in the book of John. I recommend you read the version that i like to read the new living translation. Its easy to understand.
This is what you really need to understand.
John 3:16-21 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who BELIEVES in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who BELIEVES in him. But anyone who does not BELIEVE in him has already been judged for not BELIEVING in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
Read the book of John first!!!

That's great to hear that you are interested in reading the Bible. Let me suggest that you begin with the Gospel of John. That book was written for the sole purpose of showing people how they can have eternal life (John 20:30-31). There are only 21 chapters, so it will take you just three weeks to get through the whole book if you read a chapter a day. After reading John, try going through the book of Romans. That would be my suggestion.
Knowing for sure that you have eternal life is the single most important issue in life. All people are separated from God by a sin barrier that no human effort can overcome (Isa. 64:6; Rom. 3:10, 12, 23). All human beings are born without spiritual life (Eph. 2:1). That is why Jesus Christ, who is eternal God Himself, came in human flesh so that He could suffer and die in our place - as our substitute - on the cross of Calvary. He died on the cross to pay our sin debt in FULL and rose again (1 Cor. 15:3-4). When we believe in Jesus Christ for our eternal life He has promised to give it to us:
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life" (John 6:47).
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life" (John 5:24).
To "believe" is simply to be convinced that it is true (Rom. 4:21) that you cannot in any way contribute to your own salvation and instead you trust Jesus alone to give you that life freely - a gift of unconditional eternal life. It means to believe His promise to give eternal life to all who believe in Him for that life. It really is that simple!

Absolutely. Reading the whole thing can only increase your understanding. I've found it helpful to have a bible dictionary and concordance handy as well as an interlinear that way you can look up the meaning of unfamiliar words or concepts...
All the bible has value The law makes us conscience of sin but salvation comes from belief and faith in Jesus Christ resurrection found in the Gospels
You have a great attitude, and I commend you for it. The Bible says that God places the members as He sees fit, meaning God placed you where you are, but I would be asking Him in prayer if this is in fact where He wants you, and if so, for what purpose, if your pastor is off. God WILL answer you, if you do not cease in prayer. As for reading the Bible, this IS one of the ways God speaks to His people, so absolutely, please, read it. I have found amazing revelation buried in what seems like the boringest parts of the Old Testament, so I would advise reading it all, but as others have said, take your time. The object is to know and understand your Lord, and what He has for your life. Don't feel dumb, knowing verses by heart is good, but it's in the every day affairs of life God will remind you of something you read, to give you an answer, or a caution, or whatever, in a given situation. God bless you, sis.
ignore those that tell you to skip over parts or skip around. Just like studying any other topic, the best (only) way to understand what the Bible is is to start at the beginning, read it through, and go back to the beginning,
Absolutely. And the chances are that by the time you're finished, you'll be converted to atheism like so many others.
How else do you expect to really know for yourself what the truth is? You can go on blind faith in what other's say or you can develop your own kind of blind faith built upon your own knowledge of what has been written... I suppose it is just a matter of how comfortable you feel about it. I have read it. I have that to go on instead of just what other's have told me. Not that it has made me any more comfortable. Now I have something to argue about where-as before I didn't really know what to argue.
Start with 1 Corinthians 14 34 - 35 you can add 1 Timothy 2 9 through 15 later when you are ready
Yes you should. Anyone who does will become an atheist. If they do not, they are mentally ill and belong in a mental institution.
Yes, along with many different versions as you can, so you can see how ridiculously flaw and stupid it is :)
Maybe not the whole bible, just read parts of the new testament and some parts of the old testament. The more educated you are, the better, but I don't think you'll memorize the whole book.
as an atheist i strongly encourage you to read the bible in it's entirety
wow, I need to watch that movie so I can know more than a man that went to Seminary for 4-8 years to study the Bible, and the Torah and learn all the ancient languages. Wow, thanks for the eye opener.
I would prefer to have sex, but whatever...
I plan on reading the entire Bible from start to finish. Currently I am three fourths the way through the Old Testament.
I believe the entire Bible should be read not just certain parts.
No, the Yaweh of the Old Testament is evil, the evil ruler of this world. Read only The New Testament of Jesus.

won't hurt you or any one else to read it. be sure to read revelations, will scare all who read it seeing things are happening right now that are in there,

Meditation and mindfulness are secular practices of bringing our attention to what is, at the moment : the bodily sensations , thoughts , emotions . Without Judgement.
I felt like you some years ago until someone sat down with me and took the time to help me not just read but understand the bible. You never stop learning and I am so happy that I took the time to learn what the bible really teaches. To have someone sit down with you on a day and at a time that is convenient for you, please visit JW.org or talk with Jehovah's Witnesses in your area.
Its the book by which God judges us all. You best know it from cover to cover.
A TEST WILL BE GIVEN
Its good for you to read the whole Bible for sure & good on you for wanting to; most people aren't that impressed with the Bible. The Bible is the most worthy book to read & is the inerrant Word of God. It is very trustworthy. I would read the gospel of John first to get a real picture of who Jesus is. He IS God in human flesh & is our Lord & Saviour. Reading & studying a book like the gospel of John is a great way to start to get an understanding of who God is. Getting in to a Bible study with others is important to help you grow in the faith also & it is easier to ask questions with others & find answers. It is important to know what being a believer is & that as a believer, you have the Holy Spirit in you to teach you & you can ask Him anything. Let me remind you that:
1) God loves you (we don't initially love Him) & has a wonderful purpose for your life
(1 John 4:9, 10, John 10:10, Jeremiah 29:11)
2) Man is sinful & separated from God & cannot experience His love & forgiveness
(Romans 3:23, 6:23, James 3:2)
3) Jesus died on the cross for all our sins
(1 Peter 3;18, 1 Timothy 2;5, Acts 4:12)
4) YOU can know this Jesus as your personal Lord & Saviour by accepting His invitation to be in your life
(Revelations 3:20, 1 John 1:9, Hebrews 11:1,6, John 1:12)
I hope you read these verses & find them helpful & come to really trust in this Jesus.
"If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost" (Koran)
I think it is a great thing for a person to try to study the whole bible. That is a good goal to aim for. It may be that studying John's Gospel and Acts of the Apostles would be a good start. Once you grasp and get familiar with Acts and John's gospel then try looking at some more of the New Testament. The Alpha Course is very good too.
Yes, that would be a good place to start- while you do it, be sure to apply rational thought and refer to
https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/ for help on some of the trickier parts.
I don't think you have to.
Its nice, but I think its not for everyone.
The disciples didn't even have the bible.
Read, analyze and realize that it full of ****
It never hurts to read the bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Find a version you find easiest to read and take your time. I actually find the learning bibles to be helpful.
hello dear

my advice to u dear read the holy Quran " book for islam religion " coz in ity u ll find the clear explanation for holy bible

much love and peace to u my sister
Yeah I think every Christian should read the Bible from beginning to end at least once. I see some people on here saying it won't make sense, and I always heard that too about reading it. But it does, it's like a history book. It isn't really any longer than the Lord of the Rings either, if you want to look at it that way.
I do recommend reading the whole Bible, but you don't have to do it all at once. As a Christian, I recommend starting with the New Testament, which is much shorter than the Old Testament. You might also consider listening to a recorded reading of the Bible.
As you progress, you may want to consider which translation[s] of the Bible is best for your needs.
Jesus Christ is the truth, the way, and the life! Jesus loves you. Get a king James bible and believe. Read Romans chapter 5 and 8 and 10. Read John chapter 1 and 3 and 5. Read Matthew.

Study the Word of God.

Jesus loves you. Read Genesis. Trust in God always.
https://youtu.be/rELOUo1y7tQ be ready to always confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord! Must read Matthew 10. "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."- the Word of God. Read 1 Corinthians chapter 1 and 15. Study one chapter at a time. Jesus Christ is the truth.
Yes or you will go to hell
I'm pagan, and I've read the Bible straight through 3 times and still read parts of it here and there. You can believe it or not, but reading it will let you decide for yourself what you believe.
Of course! Joshua 1:8 states: This book of the Law should not depart from your mouth, and you must read it in an undertone day and night, in order to observe carefully all that is written in it; for then your way will be successful and then you will act wisely.
Psalms 1: 1-3 states: Happy is the man who does not walk according to the advice of the wicked
And does not stand on the path of sinners+And does not sit in the seat of scoffers.+ 2 But his delight is in the law of Jehovah,+And he reads His law in an undertone* day and night.+ 3 He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, A tree that produces fruit in its season, The foliage of which does not wither.
And everything he does will succeed.
Notice from both scriptures the result of reading and studying God's word: Success!

I discovered that the clean and unclean food and hygiene laws established over 3500 years ago in the Book of Leviticus have been based all this time on the God Yahweh's working knowledge of the germ theory of disease and the modern human body and other advanced fields of science that one learns in public schools science classes. So if you try to interpret this scripture with the religious knowledge you acquired in Sunday school these laws and instructions will be hard to understand and interpret but if you interpret this scripture with the scientific knowledge you acquired in public schools science classes these laws and instructions start to make all the sense in the world for the modern human race to follow. I know all this because I am the one who discovered this mistranslation of ancient Biblical scripture by mankind due to our lack of scientific knowledge to properly interpret what is written.

YES, you should READ His word.....and not reading it for yourself , how will you know if what someone tells you is true or not......
Get a study bible, one with references in the center of the page.....when you read one scripture it will reference everything throughout the bible concerning that scripture.......you will be able to read the entire bible in less time and get more understanding from what it says IF you read throughout the Bible to see what it is talking about and why.
God came in the form of Jesus and gave His life for you.....so that you could live...and learn of Him
that is what the Bible is for, to help you understand and know why He does what He does
Pray- and read- and ask Him to open up your understanding...He knows your heart, if you are sincere, He will show you and help you
It is a history book ( my husband says so) and I think it is a book of fairy tales.

Go for it. It's very interesting and also a culturally and historically important piece of literature. I got more interested in Christianity and religions in general when I read parts of the Bible by myself rather than just listen to what some other person or source (teacher, priest, website, believer...) tells because it feels that people cherry-pick certain verses.
I haven't yet read all of it since it gets quite tedious at times (repetition, lists of names and rules...) Reading it may raise some questions so do take notes. As some people have suggested you don't have to read it from cover to cover in order. If certain themes are more puzzling than others you could pinpoint them by using the alphabetical word list at the last pages of the Bible (the version I have has this, not sure if all do). For example pick the Ten Commandments (what are the commands, how did they come to be and in what circumstances) as your first choice, so in this case you should read the 2nd Book of Moses chapter 10. Or if you're wondering about the story of Kain and Abel jump to 1st Book of Moses chapter 4.
Just "reading" it would be, in my opinion, rather worthless. Perhaps reading full sections (as in apostle according to so and so), analyzing and coming to your own conclusions might be better.
Yes indeed! God’s Word is ‘a lamp for our feet and a light to our roadway.’ (Psalms 119:105) Also, we are told that God’s Word is “beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16, 17) Therefore, it is vital to read and make application of what you read in your life. Because head knowledge does not always motivate people so that all can see a change in their lives.
There is allot your pastor hasn't told you.
There are allot of passages that are utterly soul destroying boring. There are allot of passages that are horrifying and in todays view.. undefendable.
There are things in the bible, as some call it, "The good book" that will horrify you more then the horror movie you watched last week.
The old testament is written in blood, human blood, its god is war like and seeks to murder and kill. It tells its followers to invade countries, kill the men and boys, to take the untouched females and keep them as slave.
Then after such it teaches you how to keep a slave and what you can do with a slave, a hint.. this isn't a fun book to read.
It has annals of bloodlines that read like eating wall paper.
And that my dear is the old testament. The good loving god seems to have a little anger issue there.
And suddenly you have the new testament and everything is different. How utterly strange.
So yes read it, read all of it.. and see for your self the horrors that lie deep within its pages. I suggest you start at the very beginning, there are two different genesis accounts to begin with. Two.. which are slightly different.
Yes, if you love to, so will learn some stories of your real ancestors. There are nice programs inside, that will fill the gap on your confused mind.
and some will tell you story like this one:
I think it's great you want to read the whole Bible! You should start by reading around 5 chapters or more each night(depending on how long they are). If it helps, look to see if there are any Bible study groups near you or even talk to your pastor and see if he can start one for the people at your church (your pastor would probably be more than happy to start one or ask someone in your church if they can start one)! Or Go online and look for daily Bible reading or how to read the Bible in __ amount of day, like it will say, Day 1- read Genesis 1—Genesis 6. Or something like that. The Bible is a very long book and something that can take a long time, only do it if you have at least a little bit of time every day. **** luck!????
Not yet. You need to go to other churches. Find a church that you will think you will benefit from and try to go there a lot. If you want to read the bible first try to read a chapter every two days. If you read a lot and you don't get a part of it ask your pastor. Try to go to a Catholic or Orthodox church. Hope I helped.
I am an athiest and have read through the entire bible, probably why I hate religion so much, they bend the bible and call everything a sin and god will destroy you if you dont worship him.
What I learned from reading it is what we should be doing anyway instead of using the bible as a weapon and an excuse to hate.
My understanding of it is simple, its the same lessons my parents taught me. Be respectful, humble, loving and helpful. If you disagree with something fine, but getting
mad about it will hurt yourself even more.
You do not need no god to tell you that, just a kind heart and steady morals.
I am going to put the next in caps, as this is the most important thing I learned from reading the ENTIRE bible:
BEING GAY IS NOT A FU..CKING SIN, FOR FU..CK SAKE GET A GRIP YOU DEVIL WORSHIPERS.
But since this is an internet forum of sorts and I am a pain in the *** troll these lessons dont apply here.
I am 72 y/o and have read the entire Bible more than once but was only able to do that by getting a "One Year Bible" This has verses for every day that are from the Old Testament, The New Testament, Psalms, and, Proverbs. This way if some parts are boring, such as all of the "begat's" in Genesis, you will find something else interesting and relevant to you in your life. Definitely ask God for the understanding of what you will be reading before you read it and He will give that to you, although their are layers of meanings in many scriptures and sometimes you see more meanings every time you read that Scripture.
I would also encourage you to check out the website, <blueletterbible.com>, this is because no translation of the Bible is 100% perfect and often you have to check out the original meaning of the Hebrew or Greek that the Bible was written in. One of the reasons that a person must read all of the Bible is that you often can not go by just 1 scripture to make a decision about what to do. When Satan tempted Jesus after He was in the desert for 40 days and nights, one temptation was that Satan said to Jesus, "If you are the Son of God cast yourself down from this high place," and then quoted word for word part of Psalm 91, which confirmed Satan's request for Jesus to jump off of the High place. Jesus responded with another Scripture, "Scripture also says, "Thou should not put God to the test." There are more reasons.
If you ever would like me to explain any scripture send me a message at, <
[email protected]> and I will try to answer it for you. God bless you and grant you full wisdom and understanding through His Holy Spirit. I ask in Jesus Name. Amen. Amen. and Amen.
You will become an atheist!
I wouldn't waste my time. Not even Christians read the whole bible. Most pick and choose. One thing Christians and Atheists have in common is that they both pick and choose.
Why why why waste all of this valuable time of yours on such crazy man made controlling brainwashing rubbish. Use your time to improve your life, and not just pray to some fictional boogy man in the sky hoping he will do it for you, it will not and never will happen.
Yes. At least 3 times. That should just about do it.
As a Christian you only should know the basics of the New Testament. everything else is voodoo.
I do not know how anyone can claim to be a christian without reading the whole Bible.
Yes, the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
Yes reading the bible is always a positive and studying it will help you get a better understanding of what it says. Pray before you study it and ask God to help you understand what you are reading and find the truth within it. John 17:17
If you find that difficult, ask someone to study the bible with you for understanding. Jehovah's witnesses would be more than happy to help. Find a location nearest you. Here is a link if you are interested in that.
If you are a novice as you indicate, I recommend you simply read the NT. This doesn't take long. Once you have read it through, read it once more with a notebook, take notes of places that you want someone to help you with. Do not begin to note all things down. Here you may want to read e.g. one of the letters twice, or a chapter more than once to understand what it says.
Be aware that Revelation is symbolic and much of it is impossible to understand for those who are novices. You can leave that book for a later project.
If you have questions on dogma, I am available and can answer all your questions on these subjects.
If you want to know more about Christianity, you must read the Bible because it is one of the major media God reveals Himself to us. All God followers must read the Bible. Bit by bit and finally the whole Bible.
If you can't understand the sermon, must it be the problem of the pastors? May be, may be not!
To understnad the Bible and the sermon, you can pray to God and ask God to help you have the understanding.
If you want the true, correct and original story then read the Hebrew Bible, but only an authentic translation where the meanings of words have not been changed.
For example, where they have not changed Isaiah's prophecy where he talks about a "young woman" who IS pregnant with a child, into a story about a "virgin" giving birth to God himself sometime in the future.
No! Just pray and ask, then listen to what the Holy Spirit tells you to do!
<<Should I read the whole bible?>>
What good is reading the whole Bible if/when you don't have Authoritative Interpretation available to you?
<<I am a 20 year old female. I go to church but now a days the pastor don t know what they be talking about (sorry)>>
And you do?
Why does everyone is their 20s think everyone older than them is an idiot?
This is one of the reasons everyone older than you thinks everyone in their 20s is, well, in idiot.
<<well my pastor don t know what he is talking about.>>
. . . "doesn't" know", not "don't". Your pastor "doesn't know what he's talking about, allegedly.
<<I have watched the Jesus movie I was in 7th grade. Can t remember much all I know it was a long movie and sad. I just wish someone can sit down and explain everything about the bible to me.>>
There is no one who can sit down and explain "everything" about the Bible to you. And, if there was, I seriously doubt you'd be able to comprehend much of it based on the poor grammar I'm seeing here.
<<I feel really dumb because I don t even know a verse in the bible by hard.>>
"Heart", not "hard". . . You don't know a Bible verse by heart. I'm sure you do, maybe you just don't realize they're bible verses. With that in mind, I don't see how you can sit there and criticize your pastor of all people!
<<Should I read the whole bible?>>
NO! Don't even try!
Never mind the Bible. Concentrate on your schoolwork, for God's sake!
start new testament first, then go back and read the old testament
it is kind of sanctimonious to say that you have to accept every word as law and to live every word. some read books to the word, while others read the books for the spirit. that usually creates a big difference between those who are fundamentalist and read it literally, compared to the liberal churches which read it in-depth, seeking meaning and the spiritual nature.
this is one of the problems most apparent in the legal system of the united states; that law-makers take the bible as literally as possible.
when they do combine this with the american constitution, it doubles the crime against american-democracy, and the american peoples.
It is one of the best ways to become an atheist, but you could probably stop reading after the talking snake and virgin birth non-sense. At 20 you should be able to see the similarities in the bible with the hateful, spiteful, sexist, bigoted men that wrote this mythology over 2000 years ago.
Libraries in The Vatican.
First of all, either change churches, or pay attention to the sermons. Who are you to judge that the pastors don't know what their talking about when you yourself said that you don't know much about the Bible? Join a study group where people will be willing to help you with your spiritual journey. Also, take my advice and don't start from the beginning, instead, start from Matthew in the New Testament.
Just read this and you will be well on your way to having God's full confidence in your soul !!!
STUDY THE BIBLE AND DO WHAT IT SAYS
I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil (trouble): I the LORD do all these things. Isaiah 45:5-7
Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. 46:6-10
John 14:29 And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe
Jer 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
Jhn 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
1Jo 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Pray the following
Dear Lord,
I admit that I am a sinner. I have done many things that don’t please you. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry and I repent. I ask you to forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross for me, to save me. You did what I could not do for myself. I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life, I give it to you. Help me to live every day in a way that pleases you. I love you, Lord, and I thank you that I will spend all eternity with you. Amen
I knew you were lying when you said 20 year old.
Yeah unless it's painful to read it
Yes...one pastor told a 14 year-old girl that we atheists eat babies!
I read the bible twice as part of my research.
Mo University Lecturer Atheist with degrees in Theology Comparative Religious Studies and Philosophy of Religion
It is a collection of 76 books so it will take a while. Weather you believe it or not it would still be a major reading achievement
NO, Bible is a man made doctrine. I am NOT surprised your pastor knows nothing.
Read the Quran. The last n final testament from your Lord/God of all mankind.
All is explained there about creation, life n death, heaven n hell, Abraham, Jesus, Moses and Muhammed (pbut).
Yes you should but you have to do it a bit at a time and reflect on what the real meaning is of each passage. Note the conflicts and all the things you must do. Like write the commandments on your door frame so you are reminded of them as you go out the door.
Nothing else will make you a non-believer faster.
Yes I think you should.
If you are going to call yourself a Christian, you need to know the terrible things you are going to align yourself with when you do so.
You should read for yourself the historical inaccuracies, the immoral teachings, scientific flaws, and the lack of logic, not just the cherry picked passages a preacher or a priest shoves down peoples throat on Sundays.
Only if you are interested in ancient superstition.
I am a 20 year old female. I go to church but now a days the pastor don t know what they be talking about (sorry) well my pastor don t know what he is talking about. I have watched the Jesus movie I was in 7th grade. Can t remember much all I know it was a long movie and sad. I just wish someone can sit down and explain everything about the bible to me. I feel really dumb because I don t even know a verse in the bible by hard. Should I read the whole bible?
Well dear, I would suggest that you learn ENGLISH or at least some GRAMMAR first. Then I would suggest that you understand most REAL ministers have a doctrine in DIVINITY, which means that they have a Ph.D. in religion. Unless they went to some fly by night school that some religions have for their specific religion. You should also realize that there is no movie that portraits the life of Christ correctly....Movies are not reality-duh. If you want to know about Christianity READ THE BIBLE - YES all of it. Starting with the first page all the way through. You will probably at some point have questions and might talk to that minister you think is an idiot - he probably knows more about it than most people replying here. My personal opinion, it never hurts anyone to read it - there are some pretty good ideas about how to live life in it.
