Express the concentration of a 0.0440 M aqueous solution of fluoride, F–, in mass percentage and in parts per million.
Assume the density of the solution is 1.00 g/mL.
Choose an arbitrary volume of solution, such as 1 L, so that you can determine the amount of solute.

Molar mass of F⁻ = 19.00 g/mol

In 1 L (1000 mL) of the solution :
Number of moles of F⁻ = (0.0440 mol/L) × (1 L) = 0.0440 mol
Mass of F⁻ = 0.0440 × 19.00 = 0.836 g
Mass of the solution = (1000 mL) × (1 g/mL) = 1000 g

Concentration in mass percentage
= (0.836/1000) × 100%
= 0.0836%

Concentration in ppm
= (0.836/1000) × 1,000,000 ppm
= 836 ppm
