Writers: Regardless of your belief in it, what do you imagine hell to look like?
If you could write a description with a literary, artistic emphasis, I would appreciate it a lot. I am trying to write a story for a videogame which takes place in hell, and I need inspiration. If you could fire up your creative muscles and write a short passage, that would be amazing.

Why don't you read Paradise Lost by John Milton, and the Inferno by Dante? I don't think anybody has ever topped those two descriptions of hell.
And don't forget there are various hells in various different versions of Buddhism, indigenous Chinese religion, and other belief systems. The Chinese one is especially interesting because it's a bureaucracy quite similar to the imperial Chinese bureaucracy.
Update: I just read your petulant response to Bluebellbkk. You are a snotty little jerk, Jordan. Ignorant, too.
So how much are you going to pay me to exercise my literary muscles on your behalf?
I think if there is a hell, it's literally the worst thing you can imagine. So it's different for every person.
If you want to see someone's more contemporary literary take on hell, check out Robert Olen Butler's Hell. It's amazing and unlike any hell you've seen described before!
Personally i think you should figure out what you think it looks like. But in my head, hell is just a place of nothingness where you're trapped with all your thoughts and regrets and wrong doings. Not sure how that would help with a video game though
