Sanding walls??

I would like to sand the whole of my bedroom as there are horrible textures every here and there. I would ideally like to use an electric sander as I can't see myself being any good by hand, but which do I go for? After sanding the walls I would then like to paint them.

Don't know the texture not the materials that you speak of but using a spray bottle and a scarper. Like they do for popcorn ceilings, may be a better option.
As far as a sander, any old palm sander will do the job but it is going to get that dust, everywhere, be prepaid for that.
