I'm 15, and when I turn 16 I'm nervous to drive?
Hello. I'm a 15 year old girl and I have epilepsy so I'm extra nervous about driving. I'm not sure if I'll be able to drive or not because of my seizures. I will be 16 in December (it's March so 9 month's a long time). Sure it's still a while but I have just been thinking way to hard about it and I'm so nervous. I don't even know how to drive and I want to be a good driver. My brother made my dad nervous when he started driving and I want to impress my dad but I'm no show off. How do I even drive? What are the basics? Here are things going through my mind..What if I were to have a seizure while driving? Or what if I can never drive because of this?? What if I can't pass my drivers test? What if I can't pass my permit ? What if I got in an accident? What if I just don't get what it takes? Helpppp!

The first thing you should do is to ask your doctor if it would be safe for you to drive. Some epileptics cannot drive safely, because their seizures happen without warning and are so severe that they would crash if they ever had a seizure will driving. Other epileptics can take medicine to avoid having bad seizures while driving, and have only minor ones that allow them to stop the car safely before they crash. But you can't decide for yourself, because you don't know whether you are the type of epileptic who might crash a car because of epilepsy. You need to ask your doctor.
A previous question indicates you are in New York state, US. (This is an international site.) "For an applicant to be issued a driver’s license in New York, a person with epilepsy must not have experienced a loss of consciousness within the previous 12-month period and must submit a physician's statement confirming this fact."
