Find a value for the constant k so that

f(x)= { sin(3x)/x x<0
{ x+k x>0

will be continuous at x=0.

sin (3x) / x = 3 sin (3x) / (3x) ---> 3 as x-->0

So, you want x+k = 3 as x--->0. Thus, k = 3

The curve below 0 is sin(3x)/x.
The curve above 0 is x + k

To be continuous at x =0, you want those curves to touch. You want the limits to be the same. Take the limits. Set them equal. Solve for k.
