It's the way of American politics.
As an independent or moderate democrat, every time I hear someone say "liberal" in a disparaging way, it sounds like they are saying "financially irresponsible." They generally use it with the words "rainbows and butterflies."
Which doesn't make any sense, because the War in Iraq was super expensive and super pointless at the same time. We'd been better off giving everyone free college and healthcare. Inequality between the rich and poor is a huge issue that no one wants to talk about.
Liberals also have a tendency to be educated and live healthy lifestyles which makes them come across as yuppies or elitists.
I wouldn't worry about it much, it's just insults created by people to prevent you from voting.
The richclass advocate right wing has been desperately trying to turn it into some sort of cuss-word for about 30 years now.
It is not, but you have to look at both sides, since the word 'conservative' is also looked at as a dirty word or an insult depending where you are and who you are talking to. Heck, even in other countries 'American' is considered a dirty word and an insult and I have even known US citizens to be ashamed of being called 'Americans' overseas as if they are giving into the shaming.
It isn't. Fools and Teaheads try to make it an insult, but I'm honored by the term.
"They're obnoxious, mean, untrustworthy, politically incestuous, backstabbing, despicable liars. Starting in the WH and into Congress."
Cuz we're not nice like this person. Cheers!
