How should I ask my mom about my dad?

Okay, so my mom was never married. Actually right now she's engaged to my soon-to-be step-father, but recently I started wanting answers of how my mom came to be with me. I've looked back at picture from the day I was born and my dad wasn't in any of them. ( I've already had it confirmed he wasn't there) So really I just want to know how i should bring up this touchy subject up to my mom without making it awkward.

Yes, you should ask who your father is. He could be a man she was with only once, or he may have left when you were young. It may be tough for her to talk about. She'll can only explain things as she sees and remembers them, and there may be another version of how things happened. At some point, you may or may not want to find him. Depending on how she explains him being gone, you might want to wait a while to discuss that.
