Arrhenius acids are aqueous solutions containing hydrogen ions. Two common reactions of Arrhenius acids are :

1.
Arrhenius acid reacts with reactive metals (more reactive than copper) to give hydrogen gas. From example,
Zn(s) + 2H⁺(aq) → Zn²⁺(aq) + H₂(g)

2.
Arrhenius acid reacts with metal carbonate (or metal hydrogencarbonate) to give carbon dioxide gas.
CO₃²⁻(aq) + 2H⁺(aq) → H₂O(l) + CO₂(g)
