The balanced equation should be :

2Na + 2H₂O → 2NaOH + H₂

instead of Na + 3 H2O = NaOH + H2 , it should be , 2 Na + 2 H2O = 2 NaOH + H2 since it complies and full fills as balanced equation where number of atoms of Na , O and H involved in reactants and products are are in equal numbers , reactant side Na atoms = 2 , in 2 H2O number of H and O are 4 H and 2 O ; product side , 2 NaOH consist 2 Na , 2 O and 2 H and 2 H in H2 , thus 2 Na , 2 O and 4 H .
