Has anyone successfully removed the waffle pattern left on hardwood floor from rubber carpet pad?

Recently removed old carpet and pad from living and dining rooms to find beautiful hardwood floors but there is a pattern from the pad that will not wash off. Is it possible that the rubber pad removed the urethane finish at the points of contact?

I have had success with getting this out by simply buff/recoating the floors. I would just do a small test section with the new finish first.

I tried recoating a small section with urethane. The marks disappeared after two coats.

You will need to do some sanding to get that off, try not to get into the stain- only the finish. Pick a corner and sand by hand to see if the problem is only in the finish.
