Cadbury Dairy Milk is Ireland's most popular 'candy' (we call them 'sweets'). Our favourite meals are probably any combination of meat, potatoes, and vegetables. To give you an idea of how seriously we take this, if you're at a wedding in Ireland and there was no combination of meat and potatoes at the meal, people would probably walk out and talk about it for the next 50 years.

Unknown things about Ireland ... well, we invented colour photography (John Joly in 1894), discovered the first cure for leprosy (Vincent Barry), and we invented the submarine (John Philip Holland in 1881), the tank, and the guided missile (Louis Brennan, he also built the first helicopter but it crashed and burnt in 1925).

The word 'boycott' comes from an episode in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo when they started a campaign of isolation against Charles Cunningham Boycott, a land agent. In 1880, all the shops in the town refused to serve him.

Some strange facts about Ireland - we have the lowest reporting of UFOs of any European country! Only 9% of the Irish population have red hair. And the Late Late Show, shown on our national broadcaster RTE, is the longest running chat show in TV history. Dublin has 1 pub for every 100 people living here. And to get to number 1 in the Irish music charts, you only have to sell about 5000 copies here.

Hope that helps!

"Candy" is the name for hard boiled sweets... sweets and chocolate is what it is called and it depends who you ask what is more popular, things like Cadbury Dairy Milk, Creme Egg, Wispa, Flake or Crunchie or Caffrey’s products

"unknown things about ireland" If they are unknown then no one knows!

We call them 'sweets', not candy.

Unknown things about Ireland? You mean things YOU don't know. Simply google each one to find out.

'Tayto' crisps are big. There's even a theme park to them. ( Americans call crisps "chips" btw- chips are what you call "fries" ).

Little known things? The surnames 'English' and 'French' are Irish in origin!

I asked at two shops what their biggest sellers were, for chocolate and sweets in general.

Shop 1. Cadbury's chocolate, particularly their new Oreo bar, and Crunchie.
Shop 2. Cadbury's Crunchie and Flake, neither of which are said to be available in US, and any other Cadbury product.

Neither shop specified any other kinds of sweets as being the "most popular".

The Irish I know like chocolate and hard candies. They eat a variety of pork products, bacon, ham, pork chops and sausages. They also like Chinese take-away, chips (fries) and crisps (chips), Gateaux (cake) and pizza. Their pizza is different than ours as it may have ham or chicken rather than Italian flavors. They like Biscuits (cookies) and scones. They call dinner Tea. While most drink mainly tea, coffee is popular also.
Curry is a favorite and served at many restaurants. Cabbage is a favorite vegetable but is not usually served with Corn Beef, like here as this dish originated the US as this cut of meat is cheaper and the first immigrates
could not afford the more expensive cuts of meat.
