I think you are referring to the argument often used by atheists that there is as much evidence for Harry Potter as there is for Jesus. E.g. there is extensive literature about him, the story takes place in the real world , he has millions of fans, etc. All of these can apply to either character, and in the absence of something definitive, if you believe Potter is fiction, then why not Jesus (and thereby God). The typical Christian response is to scoff at this argument, and say Potter is CLEARLY fiction and Jesus is CLEARLY not fiction, but they have no answer (apart from their own faith) to support the dismissal of the argument.

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!
